Carmi Certified as 2018 Enterprise Zone
The Illinois Department of Commerce announced a decision to certify four Enterprise Zones and Carmi/White County-Edwards County made the cut.
The Enterprise Zone Board evaluated submitted applications and made their final recommendations last month.
Effective January 1, 2019, Carmi/White County-Edwards County, along with the Quad Cities, Kewanne/Henry County and Vandalis/Fayette County will be official enterprise zones.
The zones encourage job growth and investment by allowing various tax incentives like sales tax exemptions on qualifying building materials, utility tax exemptions and various local incentives. Each zone, maintains its designation for 15 years. The Enterprise Zone board will review the zones after 13 years to determine a possible ten year extension of the designation.
