Bulldog Golfers Honored
Following a stellar season this past fall, the Carmi-White County High School golf team has received several honors from the Southern Illinois Coaches Association.
Freshman Oakley Gee and sophomore Ty Barbre have been named to the All-South Class A team, and head coach Trey Mason has been named the Class A Coach of the Year.
Mason guided the Bulldogs to a 29-1 regular season, a Black Diamond Conference championship, a second-place finish at the Class 1A regional, third place at the sectional and a fourth place showing at the 1A state tournament in Bloomington.
Gee had a 35.3 stroke average for nine holes and 74.6 for 18, and Barbre boasted a 37.7 stroke average for nine holes and 80.3 for 18.
Gee took medalist honors at the conference and sectional meets, finished in a tie for sixth at state and second at the regional.
Barbre was third at the BDC meet and the regional, tied for 13th at the sectional and tied for 16th at state.
Barbre, just a sophomore, is now a two-time All-South honoree in golf. He has also made school history by being named in All-South in two sports in the same season, as the talented 10th grader also earned All-South honors (and a trip to the state meet) in cross country.
