April 4th candidate profile – Carmi Township Highway Commissioner – Chris McEwing

In an effort to help the public make informed decisions in the upcoming Consolidated Election April 4th, we at WROY/WRUL News asked candidates in the contested races for the City of Carmi to fill out a short questionnaire.

Chris McEwing

Carmi Township Highway Commissioner

  1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a Lifelong citizen of Carmi white county. I graduated from CWCHS in 1995. I then went to Olney central on a baseball scholarship. Employed at the Carmi township road district for 6+ years. I was raised by a single mother of 4 Sherry McEwing who instilled hard work into us at an early age and taught us that nothing is given to you, you have to earn it. Engaged to a strong woman Mesia Jackson and am a devoted father. I believe family come first and that a handshake is a binding contract.

  1. Why do you want to serve?

I am very passionate and truly do love my job. I believe that everyone in some way should do something to make their community better and to give back. I have been giving this job a 110 percent and that is one way I feel I’m giving back and making a difference. I have big plans for the future of the Carmi township road district if elected.

  1. What are the biggest issues you see facing your desired position? How do you plan to address these issues?

I wouldn’t be able to narrow it down to one big issue but a few important projects that need to be assessed. One of the many issues for example would be snow removal equipment needs to be more efficient. The township has always had a great board of trustees and i am really excited, if elected ,with working to achieve these goals.

  1. What sets you apart from the other candidates? Why should voters choose you on April 4th?

I believe it would be impossible to compare with the passion, experience, and work ethic I have for this position. Being the highway road commissioner is more than throwing a few political signs out. It’s 2 o’clock phone calls that there is a tree down across the road, it’s 100° patching in summer, snow removal on Christmas morning, being available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, I know that because that’s what I’ve done with my time here. I have been fortunate to have a lot of great people behind me and am excited. If elected, I will move forward and raise the bar for Carmi Township Road commissioner.
