Another Local Newspaper Takes Measures to Reduce Costs

An announcement Friday has indicated print readerships continued decline.  The Carmi Times is the latest to announce changes to it’s distribution schedule which will take the once powerful local media giant down to only 2 days of printed publication.  The Carmi Times, established as the Times in December of 1950, was once the leading source of news and information in White County.  It, along with nearly all printed journalism, has taken hit after hit being unable to adapt to the changing media landscape.  Beginning October 13th, the Times will only print newspapers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Times isn’t the only publication to announce changes recently.  The Norris City newspaper, The Villager’s Voice just over a month ago announced it would cease printing of it’s news publication and instead rely solely on it’s digital product after 8 years in business.

The Carmi Chronicle continues to publish a weekly paper as does the Grayville Navigator.  Since the Carmi Times dropped from it’s daily status several years ago, WROY/WRUL Radio and wrul.com have served as the county’s only daily source of news and information, while remaining a free service to consumers.
