Amy Barton LCSW, Behavioral Therapist at Fairfield Memorial Hospital/Horizon Healthcare, has received designation as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) by the Association for Play Therapy.
Play Therapy is a powerful tool used by therapists to address cognitive, behavioral, and emotional challenges in children who are not able to verbally express their thoughts and feelings. Licensed professionals therapeutically use play therapy to help clients better process their experiences and develop more effective strategies for managing their worlds.
Play Therapy is not the same as regular, everyday play. While spontaneous play is a natural and essential part of the developmental process, Play Therapy is a systematic and therapeutic approach that incorporates evidence based practices and techniques to work with clients to help prevent or resolve psychological difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.
“Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services strives to meet the ever changing needs of our clients. Children are some of the most vulnerable population we serve as they are not always able to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences due to limited verbal capabilities due to age or developmental disorders. Mrs. Barton’s certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) is an example of level of devotion that our Behavioral Therapists have to helping their clients achieve the best possible outcome.” commented FMH CEO, Katherine Bunting-Williams.
