The Illinois State Fair is well underway and the Illinois Department of Agriculture, along with BRANDT, is excited to again offer fairgoers the popular attraction, Ag Tours. These exciting tours give fairgoers the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at Illinois agriculture on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
“I loved all the new information we learned about all the animals and the fairgrounds.” said fairgoer Jenny Stawick of Manteno. Jenny’s son Jackson learned “a lot about the process of dairy farming and keeping and caring for cattle.”
This twice daily tour will depart from the Illinois Department of Agriculture tent and take fairgoers on a guided tram ride throughout the fairgrounds. The guides are members of Illinois FFA and have received high praise for their knowledge and excitement. Tour participants learn about the Illinois agriculture industry, including beef, dairy, horse racing, goats, rabbits, corn, soybeans and composting. Each Ag Tour participant receives a sticker and coupons, courtesy of the Illinois Pork Producers Association, to be redeemed at the Commodities Pavilion.
The tours have been a huge success so far and there are still plenty of opportunities for fairgoers to hop on a tour and enjoy all the agricultural areas that the fair has to offer.
The schedule for tours for the rest of the fair is:
- Monday August 15th 10:00am & 2pm
- Tuesday, August 16th 10:00am
- Wednesday, August 17th – Saturday, August 20 10:00am & 2pm
