Active Shooter Drill Planned
Carmi Police along with the White County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting an active shooter drill this week at Washington Attendance Center, here in Carmi.
The drill will start around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 5). As in the past there will be no students during the active assailant exercise, as the students will be dismissed early Wednesday afternoon. The teachers from the Carmi District will all convene at Washington Attendance Center for the mock drill.
The training drills are not only mandated by law, but also necessary and important tools for both law enforcement and the teachers to be better prepared in case of a real lock down or active assailant incident.
Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter again pointed out there will be no students present. He said the notification is to prepare the public that the training will be on-going Wednesday afternoon. The public should not be alarmed when they see several law enforcement officers and vehicles at the school or hear the dispatch calls on the radio during the training drill.
