Active Shooter Drill
The White County Sheriff’s Department, Carmi Police Department and the Norris City Police Department will be conducting an active shooter training drill at the Norris City Annex School during the afternoon hours of this Friday, Oct. 5.
The Norris City Annex School will team up with Law Enforcement Officials to conduct the drill. School and law enforcement officials have met recently to work on the details and planning for the full scale exercise.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier said no students will be present during any part of the drill. Teachers and administrators from the school district will participate in the drill according to Sheriff Maier.
The sheriff explained the goal of the exercise is for each agency to practice their respective duties and for the staff to practice the school policy and lock down protocols should an emergency situation occur that requires a response.
Maier said his agency and the other departments were notifying the public well in advance of the training exercise.
“The public should not be alarmed if they see several law enforcement officers present at the school or hear calls through dispatchers on the radio during the exercise,” said Sheriff Maier.
