9-1-1 funding at risk without budget in Springfield

Time is running out for 9-1-1 in Illinois.

The mechanism to fund 9-1-1 expires or sunsets on June 30th. With the Illinois Legislature looking to adjourn on May 31st, lawmakers must agree to a plan to continue the funding of 9-1-1.

If lawmakers don’t come to an agreement before the current law expires on June 30, then on July 1, 2017; 9-1-1 systems across Illinois could be without the ability to pay the power or phone bill.

In addition, without a continuing appropriations bill to go along with any extension, the funding will stop as well. This will cause funds not to be available to pay 9-1-1 system vendors, and those 9-1-1 systems could be taken to court for breach of contract(s).

Calls may be made to Governor Rauner’s Office at 217-782-6830 asking the Governor to please fund 911 now.
