In between the potential for severe weather events Friday night and Saturday, a local group is hoping you’ll make putt putt and raising money to find cures and save children a priority. The 618 Crew for St. Jude will embark on it’s 6th annual Putt Pub Crawl with registration beginning at noon and a shotgun start at 1pm all culminating from the Carmi Elks Lodge. Keith Davis dropped in the Carmi Kiwanis Club Thursday to talk more about the event itself along with the organization they’re helping with proceeds. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is located in Memphis, Tennessee and has made huge strides since being founded in 1962.
When it started, the survival rate was 20% and now it’s over 80% so they’ve come a long way in the different researches they keep improving. Their goal and our goal is to get that number to 100%. That’s what we keep pushing for; it’s why we keep doing our fundraisers and we can’t do it without the support of the community, businesses and individuals.
The campus in Memphis covers 98 acres and continues to grow. A couple of the 618 Crew before they were a crew made their way down to Memphis for a run back in 2019. That experience is where the 618 Crew for St. Jude was born.

Davis explains this Saturday’s event and how a Putt Pub Crawl works.
Basically you go around downtown Carmi and play 18 holes of putt putt. We’ll have them set up at the Elks Lodge, Danny’s Pool Room, Gottzz’s, 103 Grounded in Grace, the Webb-Hay House, and the VFW. It’s a rain or shine event. It starts at ends at the Elks Lodge. We have Taylor Made selling food out front beginning around 11:30am. At the end, players will turn in their scorecards in at 5pm and we’ll start with the raffles. You don’t have to play to come buy raffle tickets or participate in the auctions.
Davis says some of the auction items will be highly coveted and there’s a solid selection featuring prizes for all walks of life.
We have something for everybody…a foosball table, a 4-wheeler for kids, a stay at a beach house donated by David and Marcia Coston own, food and drinks package in the Champions Club at a Cardinals game, Cincinnati Reds tickets, Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, and more.
Last year’s Putt Pub Crawl raised more than $21,000. Over the last 5 years in total, Davis says the group has raised more than $400,000 for St. Jude. The secret to success is persistence and the group, with members spread across Carmi, McLeansboro, and Millstadt, is constantly working on their next fundraiser. After Saturday, members will be working on their May 3rd Jeep/SxS/UTV Poker Run and a June 7th event planned for Homestead Winery.
