Rotary learns about SWAN services at Thursday meeting

At Thursday’s Rotary meeting, Cindy Conley introduced Jonathon Akers of SWAN.  SWAN is an adult protective Services organization based out of Olney.  Jonathon is over White and Hamilton counties.  Jonathon described the types of abuse to the Rotarians.  They include physical, emotional, confinement, sexual, passive neglect, willful deprivation and financial exploitation.  Of the 12,000 reported cases in Illinois in 2012, 58% were as a result of financial exploitation.  To be eligible for help, the alleged victim must be 18-59 with a disability, aged 60 or over, reside in the community and not in a long term care facility and there must be an allegation of abuse, neglect or exploitation.  To report abuse in our area, one may call 618-392-3556.  Jonathon answered several questions from the Rotarians.

In club business, Rotarians discussed the fact that the Trivia contest is only 4 weeks off.  It is scheduled for March 11.  Sherri Logan was named the phantom.  Lyn Stephens won the honor of selecting the pink ball in the 50/50 drawing but did not so the large pot rolls over.  Andy Williams and Little Giant prepared a delicious meal of meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans for the club.  The club meets at noon on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church.  Anyone wishing to get involved is encouraged to come help Rotary with the many local projects and charities that are supported.
