People v. Brenden Schell
Edwards Co. Case No. 16-CF-16
18-year old Brendan L. Schell of Mt. Carmel, IL was sentenced today in the Edwards Co. Circuit Court by Hon. Judge David Frankland to 8-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by 3-years mandatory supervised release (formerly known as parole) for his participation in a Class X Felony Armed Robbery of the Casey’s General Store located at 306 N. Court Street in Grayville, IL. Schell was also ordered to pay $254.00 restitution to Casey’s as well as court costs. As part of the plea agreement, Schell’s lesser charge of a Class 3 Felony Intimidation was dismissed.
Although Schell was only 17-years old at the time of the commission of the offense, the State, represented by Edwards Co. State’s Attorney Mike Valentine, was successful in winning a motion early on removing Schell’s case from the juvenile court and transferring him to the adult criminal court. As such, Schell was sentenced today as an adult offender rather than as a juvenile offender.
State’s Attorney Valentine commended the work of Chief Roy Mann and Officer Mike Brown of the Grayville Police Department in their investigation of this case as well as the assistance of the Illinois State Police and the Mt. Carmel Police Department in apprehending the defendant. Valentine also commended the employees and manager of the Grayville Casey’s General Store for their participation in aiding in investigation as well as their participation and testimony during preliminary court proceedings.
