Winter Weather Warning

As I recall, this reporter mentioned the old adage; be careful what you wish for, during Thursday’s report concerning the winter weather watch….well, apparently some of our listeners did not take that to mind, as Southeast Illinois, including White County is now under a winter weather warning; meaning significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Obviously, that’s an upgrade from yesterday’s winter weather watch. Watches basically mean there is a potential for significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice.

The National Weather service issued the warning Thursday night after computer models indicated Southeastern Illinois will likely receive three to five inches of snow, with heavier amounts possible in some locations.

The storm system is expected to bring a period of wintry precipitation starting late this afternoon and continuing through the night, changing to mainly snow overnight, when the heaviest snow is expected. Driving conditions will likely be affected tonight and into the early morning hours of Saturday, as blowing snow will reduce visibility and area roadways will likely become slick and snow covered. If you must travel you can check road conditions in any state by calling 5 1 1

All of this north of a line from Anna to Carmi, including Saline, Franklin, Union, Jefferson, Edwards, Jackson, Hamilton, Williamson, Wabash, Wayne and White counties.
