Myrtle Sutton

Myrtle Sutton, 96, of Norris City passed away at 1:59 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020 at her home.  She was born in Iron, IL on June 13, 1923 the daughter of Dee and Minnie Mae (Aud) McGhee.  Myrtle married James G. Sutton on November 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 2011.  She was a homemaker who loved to cook and was a faithful member of Plainview General Baptist Church.

Myrtle is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mick Colbert of Norris City; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Beth Sutton, Bob and Jo Sutton and Roger and Nancy Kay Sutton all of Norris City and David and Marsha Sutton of McLeansboro; a sister, Robilee Martin of Petersburg, IL; 14 grandchildren, Kurt and Valissa Sutton, Kerry and Gretchen Sutton, Courtney and Jeff Neal, Lora and Chris Marsh, Mark and Angie Colbert, Alexa and Todd Hortin, Afton and Craig Poole, Heather and Matt Vollman, Holly and Brad Vinyard, Andy and Bethany Sutton, Rhonda and Kelly Forston, Rachel and Joe Gray, Kim and Cory Fuqua and Kory and Chelsea Sutton; five step-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Aaron Weaver and Kizzy Richards, Chris Russell and Janet Bond; 35 great-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren with two more on the way; and a special caregiver, Tammy Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Freda Barbee and her twin, Mabel Sutton Shay; six brothers, Theron, Carl, William, Paul Wayne, Alfred D. and Delmar Lee McGhee; and a great-granddaughter, Kelly Jo Colbert.

Funeral Services for Myrtle Sutton, 96, of Norris City will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Plainview General Baptist Church, 792 County Road 325 N, Norris City with burial in Plainview Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Plainview General Baptist Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Myrtle’s memory to Plainview General Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City who is in charge of arrangements.
