Candy Corn Run Set for Corn Days

 

The annual Candy Corn Run to benefit the Guardian Center will be held again this year during the Carmi Corn Days weekend.

Proceeds from the run will benefit the children of Edwards, Gallatin, Saline, Wabash and White Counties. The run will start and finish at the First Christian Church, here in Carmi Saturday morning, Oct. 13. Registration will begin at 7 and conclude at 8 with the race start at 8:15 that morning.

The Guardian Center works to help children who have been reported as abused, physically or sexually. Advocates provide emotional support, court assistance, referrals for counseling and a variety of other services to the children and their families from the time of the child’s disclosure until the criminal case or other services are completed.

The Center is looking for items for participant bags to be presented to the runners and walkers that Saturday. Pens, magnets, water bottles, note pads, bottled water and food items would be welcome and may be dropped off at the center on outer Oak Street, here in Carmi.

Sponsorships must be in by tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 20 The last day to register for the race to be guaranteed a shirt is Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Earlier this month, the Guardian Center hosted its first Firecracker 5K Challenger, with 32 registered runners and walkers, ranging in age from 7 to 74. The overall winner was Arnaud Pecheaur. Sara Kelsey topped the female runners.
