Stinking Rivers
Local residents having been “holding their noses” around the area rivers, as the flooded waterways have caused a stench that is hard not to notice.
Unless one’s “smeller” is not working properly, it’s hard to miss the odors coming from the Little Wabash and Skillet Fork, here in White County. The smell, which is hard to describe without using slang or “four letter words, is caused by the crops underneath the flood waters, which have soured and fermented causing the odors.
And while those odors are offensive, its adding insult to injury to the farmers who own those fields as they lose money on those fields and areas that will not be harvested due to the flooding.
The good news is the rivers are starting a slow fall and should be back in their banks sometime next week; barring any heavy rains.
