New Harmony’s Kunstfest This Weekend
The 36th annual German Festival and Craft Fair, commonly known as Kunstfest is set for this Saturday and Sunday in downtown New Harmony.
The streets will be filled as hundreds of vendors offer a wide variety of items for sale. There are a number of vendors from Carmi and White County participating this year. There will also be historical craft demonstrations including blacksmithing, broom and rope making, pottery, spinning and weaving, plus antique firearms and powder horns. Claudie Parson, a local broommaker has participated in the Kuntsfest for a number of years.
The variety of food will leave one wondering; what to eat? But there will be plenty of choices from brats to german potatoes to brain sandwiches.
Kunstfest also includes plenty of entertainment, from dulcimer music to polka, along with bluegrass and German Folk music. The Great River Fife and Drum Corps are back this year.
There will be a beer garden at the Granary and the Liar’s Contest will be held again this year at Murphy Auditorium.
