Driver Charged after Saturday Crash
Carmi Police ticketed a local resident following a two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.
Katie S. Grant, 1011 Stewart St., Carmi was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident after she crashed into a SUV driven by Arnold R. Smith, 726 Montgomery Circles, Carmi.
The crash occurred just before 5, Saturday afternoon, when Grant, who was traveling north on Fifth Street attempted to cross Oak Street. She told authorities she was distracted by her son in the back seat and failed to see the Smith vehicle as he traveled west on Oak.
Smith sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Grant escaped injury. Passengers in both vehicles escaped injury according to the accident report.
