Fans of in depth, local news with newsmakers in their own voice will be happy to know that WROY and WRUL News will continue it’s legacy of coverage with the addition of Mr. Ray Mitchell as News Director. Mitchell has a rich experience including stints in radio, print and digital over the last two decades.
Ray began his work in media at radio in Mt. Carmel. After Nixon’s draft letter sent him to serve in the Armed Forces, Mitchell came home to WROY/WRUL. After marrying the love of his life, Nancy, Ray took a decade off to work on the farm before coming back to radio in the mid 90’s. Mitchell would then go to work for legendary editor of the Carmi Times, Barry Cleveland, who had built a local juggernaut of journalists from Mitchell to Cleveland himself and also renowned sports editor Toby Brown.
In addition to integrity and truth in journalism, Mitchell brings with him an overwhelmingly positive reputation within the communities the radio stations serve. Full WROY Newscasts are available to listeners at 6am and 7am as well as noon Monday through Friday. Headlines are also heard at 8am, 10am, and 5pm. WRUL News is available at 6, 7, and 8am. Afternoon looks at news air at noon, 1, 4 and 5 weekdays.
Beyond on air reports, the radio stations have become well known for their thorough coverage online at wrul.com and accessible via the station’s social media outlets. General Manager, Jc Tinsley says he’s beyond excited to have Mitchell back as part of the team and humbled to call Ray a friend.
