It’s the 61st anniversary of Ridgway’s annual Popcorn Days celebration with some action set for this Labor Day weekend.
The bulk of Popcorn Day activities will actually occur next weekend; Thursday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Sept. 8; including a free concert featuring Nashville recording artist and songwriter, Keith Anderson, not to be confused with country superstar, John Anderson.
Keith Anderson will entertain next Saturday evening around 8:30 wrapping up the annual fall festival.
Activities this weekend include UTV, ATV and motorcycle barrel racing at 7 this evening at the fairgrounds on the west side of Ridgway. There will be demolition derby tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 and a western horse show will be held Sunday afternoon, also at the fairgrounds.
Next weekend’s festivities will get underway Thursday and will include a tractor pull and Gospel music featuring the Lesters.
The C-Bar Rodeo will be the highlight of Friday’s, (Sept 7) activities which will include the Popcorn Queen Contest. Friday’s musical entertainment will be Carmi’s own Josh Cronin. He will take the stage about 9 to wrap up Friday’s events.
The Popcorn Day Parade, generally one of the larger fall parades in the area will begin at 1 Saturday afternoon. This year’s theme for the parade and festival is “Once Upon A Time.”
The Peyton Sisters, from Norris City, rising stars in Southern Gospel will take the stage following the parade.
Parade awards will be announced following the Peyton Sisters.
The day will finish out with musical entertainment from the Old School Band at 4. Audio Pilot will entertain beginning around 6:15 and play until Anderson takes the stage.
