Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White announced the release of over $500,000 in 2019 Project Next Generation grants to 31 public libraries statewide.
Project Next Generation is a mentoring program administered through public libraries. Project mentors work with middle and high school students as the participants develop skills to use various technologies, achieve success through project based learning and gain life skills, such as effective communication, goal setting and conflict resolution.
Locally, the libraries receiving grants included the Harrisburg Public Library District. That district will pick up $8840 in grant money.
Carterville, Carbondale, Centralia, Marion, Pickneyville and Sparta will also receive grant money from the Project according to White’s office.
