Carmi Council Approves Facade Improvement, Mayor Warns Residents about Using Golf Carts Legally

The Carmi Mayor and council members, minus Tracy Nelson, gathered Tuesday evening in what may have been a record short meeting of just 6 and a half minutes of actual business.  After approving minutes and financials, council approved a facade improvement loan to Jason Belford for use at what  used to be the Attic, at 508 East Main Street.  The Façade Improvement Loans are for $5,000 each.  This is the 7th of 8 available for this year.

Mayor Pollard has a few reminders for city residents including a reminder about where you can and can’t utilize your golf carts and side by sides.  In addition to them not being allowed on sidewalks, Pollard says road crossings are allowed on Oak Street at 7th Street.  On Main Street, crossings are only allowed at Plum Street, Church Street, Walnut Street and Main Cross.

In addition, Mayor Pollard invites those interested in running for alderman that it’s time to pick up petitions for wards 1, 2, 3, and 4.  Those seats are currently held by Sheila Jo Headlee and Jeremy Courson for Ward 1, Doug Hays and Mike Knight for Ward 2, Mark Blake and Steve Knight for Ward 3, Lance Yearby and Tracy Nelson for Ward 4.

Alderman Mike Knight reported there will be no fly in at the Carmi airport this fall due to schedule conflicts and they’ll look to hold the next event in the spring of 2019.

Councilman Steve Knight called on Librarian Stephanie Dennis for an update who reported life is good at the library.  Cameras are operational and the library is financially running in the black.

Councilman Yearby told council he had some complaints in his neighborhoods of residents using the streets as long term parking.  Police Chief Jason Carter and Mayor Pollard says folks should call his or the Chief’s office a call if the vehicle’s registration is out of date or a nuisance and they’d see what, if any, options were available.
