White County Fair Schedule Set

The White County Fair is coming up August 6th – 11th in Carmi.  The schedule has been for the most part finalized and will feature plenty of entertainment under the grandstand as well as on the midway.  The Fair kicks off officially on Monday with the White County Fair Queen contest.  Hannah Sailer is heading up that event once again and practices are underway.  We’ll have the retiring royalty as well as queen candidates on our Open Line program in the near future.  The event always brings in a packed grandstand and tickets are just $5 each.

Harness Racing returns to the Fair on Tuesday at 6 o’clock.  Entering the grandstand is free and it will be one of two Kid’s Nights at the White County Fair.  In addition to your chance to win prizes playing pick ‘em in the grandstand, armbands for a new carnival, Mike’s Midway, will be available at a discounted price of $12 each.

Wednesday brings a team Demolition Derby.  Chad Bandy from Gallatin County is running the Demolition Derbies this year and the team derby gets underway at 7.  Carnival armbands will be $15.

Thursday will be a second Kid’s Day with discount armbands.

Friday, Kevin Crain of Farina, IL brings back what was one of last year’s favorite and most entertaining events, the rodeo.  It will feature barrel racing, bull riding, mini bulls and clown acts.  Entrance to the Rodeo will be $10 grandstand admission.  Pit passes will be available for $20.

Saturday is expected to bring the largest crowd as is tradition with the Open Demolition Derby.  As of last week, we’re told there are already more than 35 cars committed with dozens more expected.  Entrance is $10 with pit passes available for $20.

New this year, the Fair board is working with the Carmi Elks to bring Bingo to the fair in the floral hall.  Bingo will take place with single sessions beginning at 6 Tuesday and Wednesday.  Two sessions will be held Thursday through Saturday at 6pm and 8pm.

As is customary, there is no fee for parking at the 140th White County Fair.  That’s thanks to Fair support from many local and area businesses and industries.
