The following is a statement from Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert, Jr., regarding the House passage of the 2018 farm bill.
“Our members are pleased to see the House’s action today on the 2018 farm bill. Illinois farmers face daunting challenges in a declining farm economy and a dim outlook when it comes to trade – which is crucial to maintaining farmer profitability.
“Passage of the 2018 farm bill puts the pieces in place to get crop insurance and risk management programs on the books for farmers when they need them most. What’s more, the bill also contains Illinois Farm Bureau’s proposal to streamline farm bill sign up.
“We would like to thank the Illinois representatives who supported the bill for their leadership and urge the U.S. Senate to take up and pass their version of the bill as quickly as possible.”
