Thursday afternoon, the White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a man who had jumped off of the Skillet Fork River Bridge on County Road 2100N three quarters of a mile east of County Road 250E.
A witness told responders that 65 year old Dwight Tullis had stopped his vehicle on the bridge and jumped over the south side. The witness heard Tullis hit the water, and saw his head emerge before going under again. Tullis did not resurface the second time.
The White County Ambulance Service, Enfield Fire Department, Fairfield Rural Fire Department, Illinois Department of Conservation, and area residents assisted in the search for Tullis using boats and four wheelers. Tullis has not been located at this time. The search also used sonar and will resume today.
