A Carmi man was arrested Wednesday by Mt. Carmel Police after leading officers on a high speed chase through Wabash County.
56 year old Gregory Williams was taken into custody after his vehicle crashed into a field off of Wabash County Road 570E. The chase began when a Mt. Carmel Police officer attempted to pull him over on W. 9th Street for a traffic violation. Williams sped off, and the pursuit topped speeds of 100 miles per hour. Williams continued to resist officers following the accident, and a taser was used to subdue him.
He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting a police officer. Williams was additionally cited for no taillights, driving on a suspended license, and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. He is currently being held in the Wabash County Jail.
