The Norris City Village Board met Monday night for their June meeting.
On the recommendation of Danny Woosley, who had been looking into the Village’s healthcare provider, the Board agreed to switch their health insurance from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to National General Insurance. The cost is $11,875 a month. Norris City was with National General two years ago before going with Blue Cross and didn’t have any problems. The policy went into effect retroactive to June 1st.
They approved the purchase of a 2018 Dodge Durango from White County Ford in Carmi as a police vehicle for $26,000. It will be a marked vehicle and will be paid for from the general fund.
The lights at the Country Companies office will be replaced with digital lighting. Work to be done by Healy Electric for $2,700 with a $400 rebate.
The Village is working with the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission on a Delta Regional Authority, or DRA grant, for the lift station.
Motor Fuel Tax bid letting will be held on Monday, June 18th at 11 a.m. and bid letting on the trickler filter for the sanitary plant will be on July 2nd at 2 p.m.
In a TIF district update, Shorty’s BBQ will have their grand opening on June 30th, paperwork is being drawn up for Barbara Wilkinson to put up a house on the Southern Lumber lot and they’re working on another possible home and they are checking with the TIF attorney on Steve and Jodi Duncan’s request for money for their rental property.
Salvatore Lopez said he should be ready to open the new El Mexicano restaurant in about three weeks.
Village Board member Joe Skaggs, who is on the Cemetery Board, said they are now doing mapping of the old Ebenezer Cemetery and are wanting to repair some of the headstones. He’s asking the Village Board to help with some of the costs. They’re now looking to hire someone to do the work, but don’t yet know how much it will cost. The Board agreed to help and Skaggs said he’ll give them more information when he’s able.
The south side of the lake has been treated and looks much better.
In the police report for May, there were ten reports written, three arrests made and 18 citations issued, along with eight 9-1-1 calls.
In the animal control report, they will be rounding up all the stray foxes in the area.
Mayor Roy Kissell again reminded everyone that the area of their property from the sidewalk to the street is their responsibility to mow.
The next Village Board meeting will be on Monday, July 2nd at 7 p.m.
