CWC Unit 5 Board approves school resource officer agreement

The Board approved entering into an agreement with the City of Carmi and through the City of Carmi Police Department for a school resource officer. It would be for the 2018-19 school year with a total cost of $79,469.

The fiscal year 2018 tentative amended budget was approved. It has positive receipts vs. expenditures for the year of $1,733,836. The budget will be put on display for a minimum of 30 days and a public hearing and adoption of the 2017-18 budget will be at the June Board meeting.

The low bid of $30,300 from Tri-County Roofing was accepted for roof replacement and repairs over the northeast section of classrooms and the multipurpose room at Jefferson Attendance Center.

Board committee appointments were made; they are the same as last years.

In the Superintendent’s report, Brad Lee said they recently received a check for $1,338 from First Bank’s School Spirit Debit MasterCard program to be used for students.

Member schools of Egyptian Trust will see an average increase of 4.5% on their employee health insurance based on the District’s previous two and a half year loss ratio history. Unit Five will see an increase of 8.5% beginning September 1st.

On Thursday, June 14th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Junior/Senior high school cafeteria, Advance Illinois will host a listening session with a luncheon. They’re a non-partisan group advocating for a healthy public education system that prepares all students for success in college, career and civic life. Access Illinois wants to hear from the public about their vision for public education.

In other business, the Board retained voluntary student accident and dental insurance coverage through Gerber Life Insurance as well as blanket and catastrophic student accident coverage for all students. Total premium cost is $7,148.

Four Board policies were approved as amended.

They accepted the lowest bid from Bimbo Bakeries for bread and for pest control from Terminix International for the next school year.

Membership in the IASB will continue for another year.

Also accepted were the resignations of Sarah Richards as third grade R.I. aide at Jefferson School effective at the end of the school year; Clinton Wolff as freshman boys basketball coach and Chris Pollard as 7th grade girls basketball coach, both effective immediately.;

Brianne Douthitt as Washington school secretary/pupil services secretary effective June 1st and as junior high school assistant volleyball coach effective immediately;

And Tracy Steed as 5th grade teacher at Washington School effective at the end of this school year.

Also leave of absence requests for Leeann Draper for the 2018-19 school year and Darrell Nelson beginning on June 18th were approved.

The Board went into closed session at 7:23 p.m.

 

In the closed session, the Board approved the hiring of Rachel Attebury as a 6th grade and math teacher at Washington and approved that Schotzy Allen be reassigned as a special education individual aide at Washington. Ashley French was employed as a noon hour supervisor at Lincoln.  Kathryn Simmons was employed as the junior high head volleyball coach, Chris Pollard as the junior high 8th grade girls basketball coach, and Will Knight as the freshman boys basketball coach. Jeremiah Downen was employed as a building custodian for the junior/senior high school.
