The White County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit Friday morning that led to the arrest of two individuals. At approximately 9:20 am, a vehicle driven by 30 year old Charles Murphy of Mill Shoals was seen picking up two passengers at the intersection of Maple and 2nd Streets. Murphy was wanted on a White County warrant for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of property.
A traffic stop was initiated, but Murphy did not pull over, and a pursuit that would include Carmi Police, Enfield Police, and Illinois State Police continued on the Centerville Blacktop and county roads between Centerville and Enfield.
At one point, a female passenger, later identified as 18 year old Shaunna Buckman of Carmi jumped from the vehicle as it slowed down. A short distance later the vehicle stopped due to mechanical issues, and Murphy was taken into custody. He has been charged with driving while license suspended, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude, unlawful restraint, and the original warrant.
Buckman was arrested on a White County warrant for failure to appear on a drug paraphernalia charge.
Both are being held at the White County Jail.
