April is National Occupational Therapy Month! We have so many reasons to EDUCATE and CELEBRATE this month at Wabash Christian Village and Wabash Christian Therapy!
First, Occupational Therapy is widely misunderstood as a profession. Many people ask- “What can occupational therapy do for me? I already have a job!” or “I no longer have to work-I am retired!” An occupation refers to any tasks that occupy your time in a meaningful or purposeful way. OT is a profession built upon bettering the lives or people across the lifespan in all things they want or need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities to live better with injury, illness, or disability. Occupational Therapists use a holistic approach to providing care, considering a person’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and psychological state of health to create a plan of care that will promote highest functional performance in daily life activities.
Second, we have an amazing team of skilled and specialized occupational therapy practitioners at both our Wabash Christian Village skilled nursing facility, and our Wabash Christian Therapy outpatient therapy clinic. They have specialized training in treatment programs such as vestibular rehab/dizziness, lymphedema therapy, neurological rehab, hand therapy/ UE orthopedics, urinary incontinence, wheelchair seating and positioning, IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization)/ pain management, and so much more!
Third, these specialized services offered by the occupational therapy team at Wabash facilities, are covered by Medicare and most insurance programs as they are recognized and medically necessary and reasonable treatment for many conditions and diagnoses that impact quality of life and participation in meaning life activities!!
