White County Historical Society to host Dennis Stroughmatt at Spring Dinner Meeting

Make plans now to attend the Spring Dinner meeting of White County Historical Society on Monday, April 16. Following a meal catered by Yesterday’s, the featured entertainer will be Dennis Stroughmatt, a southeastern Illinois native who has become an accomplished fiddler, singer, and cultural historian. Dennis’s musical experience and abilities include Cajun, Creole, Blues, and Country & Western Swing. On April 16, you can expect to hear him relate the development of the Illinois Territory being influenced by the French settlers along the Mississippi River and the Wabash River. He will share their stories and the music that they brought with them.

Reservations for the meal and meeting at First Christian Church in Carmi must be made no later than Saturday, April 7. If you haven’t made a reservation yet, do so by calling Paula Pierson at 382-7633. Dinner begins at 6 p.m., MONDAY, APRIL 16 at the First Christian Church in Carmi. The $20 reservation can be paid at the door that evening.

The WCHS Board has planned this event to provide an entertaining and enlightening evening for all who attend. You do NOT have to be a member of WCHS to attend and all are welcome. Dennis is one of many talented individuals featured with the Illinois Bicentennial Commission and Illinois Humanities Council roster of Road Scholars. He has made numerous recordings, received awards from national cultural institutions, travels extensively throughout the country as both a musical performer and an educational speaker, and teaches at Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.
