Gallatin County man shot Tuesday afternoon

Gallatin County States Attorney Douglas Dyhrkopp released the following statement Tuesday night about the shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon south of Omaha:

Today, January 23, 2018 at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department received a dispatch from Saline County 911 of a man being shot at a residence on Buffalo Road just South of Omaha, Illinois.  Law Enforcement was on scene in under ten-minutes.  The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, The Shawneetown Police Department, Ridgway Police Department, and Illinois State Police all responded to the call.  Law enforcement made contact with a 23-year-old white male with a gun shot wound to the abdomen in the front yard of the residence.  EMS responded and the male was transported from the scene via Gallatin County EMS and Life Flight.  The name of the individual is not being released at this time due to the nature of the injuries, and the ongoing investigation.  The individual is undergoing medical treatment currently at a regional hospital.

Initial reports of a vehicle involved drive by shooting have proven to be unreliable, and false.  Due to information developed by Law Enforcement this evening it is evident that no gunman is at large in Gallatin County or elsewhere in connection with this incident.   No school children were in danger at the time of the investigation; any and all school bus traffic was intercepted by law enforcement before entering the crime scene area and no weapons or threats to safety were present when the school busses were running.  Multiple individuals have been contacted and questioned by law enforcement investigating the incident.  A search warrant was issued by the Gallatin County Circuit Court at approximately 7:30 P.M. this evening and executed at the residence on Buffalo Road.   Law Enforcement has taken one subject into custody with regard to the incident and additional arrests may follow as more details emerge in the investigation.

Gallatin County Law Enforcement all want the people of Gallatin County and the area to know that we have worked on this ongoing investigation since it was reported this afternoon and will keep the public informed as information can be released due to the sensitive nature of an ongoing investigation under the current circumstances.  The people of Gallatin County can be assured this evening that no shooting suspects are at large and we are working tirelessly to make sure the community remains safe.  Any and all suspects or defendants in any criminal case are innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
