More information has been released about a high speed chase that began in Franklin County early Monday morning that ended with the arrest of a Carmi woman at her home by Carmi Police.
Around 1 am Monday, a Zeigler Police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot. When he activated his lights, the driver, 32 year old Michelle Miller of Carmi, took off. Miller was stopped several more times, but continued to flee, clipping one officer and almost hitting several others.
Miller led the pursuit through Zeigler, Christopher, West City, Benton, and McLeansboro. A Zeigler officer attempted to get in front of Miller, but was rammed and the squad car ended up in a ditch. Another Zeigler officer lost control of his vehicle in the Benton Square and struck a retaining wall at the Franklin County Court House.
Franklin, Hamilton, and White County deputies continued the pursuit, which ended at Miller’s residence on Marshall Street, when Carmi Police took her into custody. Miller remains held without bond at the White County Jail. Two Zeigler police officers suffered non-life threatening injuries. Miller is facing charges of aggravated battery of a police officer, obstructing justice, destruction of evidence, resisting a police officer, reckless driving, and aggressive fleeing.
