The Carmi-White County Unit 5 School Board met Tuesday night at Jefferson Attendance Center due to the holiday on Monday.
Transportation Director Bart King provided an update on the current fleet of vehicles they own or lease. He said the busses they have now are safer and more dependable than ever before. He recommended the District needs another short bus that is handicapped accessible for the Brownsville School and a wide-activity bus for non-curriculum trips. King said he would prefer a five year lease plan and they have some surplus buses they could sell. The Board decided to look over the recommendations and put it on the agenda for next month’s meeting.
The Board also will look into changing the method used for a bank depository at next month’s meeting. They will decide on whether to try to rotate the four banks located in Carmi every four or five years or name one bank as a permanent depository.
The District is not owed any state aid payments, but the State still owes them about $310,000 in other revenue.
In the Superintendent’s report, Brad Lee said the District’s most recent enrollment figures show that is has 1,366 students which is down 24 students from last year.
They have also been awarded $1,036 in library grants. It provides supplementary support for the school district’s library media program, which enhances student learning and academics.
The Board Scholars for the first semester of this school year were named. There are twelve seniors, eight juniors, 13 sophomores and 13 freshmen.
They accepted letters of resignation from Mike Pfister as a building custodian at the Junior-Senior High School effective January 5th and John Choate as high school varsity boy’s assistant baseball coach effective immediately.
The Board accepted Shirley Ritsch’s request for a continuance of her leave of absence through February 26th.
28 board policies updates were preliminarily adopted as amended, with final action set at the February board meeting.
And $500 in donations was accepted for the Brownsville School.
