Carmi Chamber of Commerce gets new Executive Director

The new Carmi Chamber Board of Directors met Thursday afternoon with an important decision to potentially make.  With Holly Healy officially stepping down after accepting a role at the Carmi campus of Southeastern Illinois College, a new director was being sought.  Following adoption of the 2018 budget and appointment of Dr. Jonah Rice and Mayor Jeff Pollard as Ex Officio Board members, the group entered into executive session to discuss Healy’s replacement.

Following a 20 minute discussion, the Chamber board tendered the offer to Amber Ackerman.  She’s expected to start next week.  Ackerman is a real estate agent currently and also works mostly weekends as part time help at Chamber member The Courtyard.

Healy’s last day with the Chamber as Executive Director is Friday.  She said in a statement, “It has been an honor to serve the Carmi Chamber of Commerce.  I have enjoyed working with each board member, Mayor Jeff Pollard and other City officials.  I wish the Chamber of Commerce nothing but the best.”

Plans are well underway for the White County Christmas annual celebration.  The Carmi Chamber also voted to donate $500 to assist David Templeton and John Williams with the annual Community Thanksgiving Meal.  The Chamber’s next formal meeting will be December 14th at 4:30pm.
