Carmi Rotary gets trivia contest warm-up

At Thursday’s meeting of the Carmi Rotary club, Tom and Sheri Logan conducted a little pre-trivia trivia contest, asking a variety of questions and rewarding each winning answer with a visit to the candy bowl.

Speaking of trivia, this Saturday is the Fall version of Rotary’s trivia contest, which has become one of the biggest fund raisers for the club, and an event that is looked forward to by folks all around the White County area.

This fall’s event will be Saturday at the American Legion in Carmi. Doors will open around 5:30 and the first question will be asked promptly at 6:00pm. As in year’s past, there will be four rounds of ten questions each, with the questions coming from such topics as: history, science, the Bible, geography, sport’s and pop culture. Theoretically, the questions get harder as the rounds go by, and the point totals increase each round as well, meaning a team that does poorly in the first round still has a chance to win.

The cost to enter is forty dollars for a four-person team, and prize money will be awarded at the end of the night. First prize is one hundred dollars, second place wins sixty, and third place claims a forty dollar prize, getting their entry fee back.

If anyone would like to be part of a team, simply show up the night of the event because there are always teams looking for last minute fill-ins. If you don’t want to play, the club always has a big spectator sections as well.

In club business, Morris McCall won the 50/50 drawing but didn’t claim the day’s cash prize, meaning the money rolls over to next week’s meeting. Don Drone was named as the day’s phantom.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
