2016 Corn Day King Jace Carter
Jace Carter is a nine-year member of the Centerville Ripsnorters 4-H Club and the son of Justin James and Jennifer Carter-James of Carmi.
In the past nine years Jace has taken many projects in 4-H. The top five that he enjoys the most are rabbits, cooking, citizenship, weather, and his visual arts projects.
His honors include being the 2016 Corn King and receiving the Victory award, the HCE award, the safety award, receiving the secretary award, and having perfect attendance.
4-H is special to Jace because in 4-H he has learned many things like leadership, responsibility, and has been able to do many community service projects. He believes those qualities will help throughout his life.
Besides 4-H Jace is an active player on the football and track teams. He is also a member of the FFA, Key club, and the Shooting Sports SPIN Club. In school, Jace has received the Kiwanis and Rotary awards, Citizenship Award, Student of the Quarter, perfect attendance, and high honor roll. He is also a member and usher at the Zion United Methodist Church.
2016 Corn Day Queen Josephine Hubele
Josephine is an eleventh-year member of the Mad Hatters 4-H club and the daughter of John and Rachelle Hubele of Carmi.
Josephine has enjoyed a variety of projects in the past eleven years, but five that stands out above all the rest are sewing and textiles, sheep, visual arts, dairy, and food and nutrition. Since the age of eight Josephine has taken sewing and textiles, a visual arts fiber, and a food and nutrition project along with a dairy and sheep project for the past nine of the ten years. Her greatest accomplishment in her sewing project occurred this past year in constructing a floor length midnight blue evening gown with a shimmering organza overlay that she is wearing as the retiring 2016 Corn Day Queen today.
This past year Josephine has excelled in many 4-H Honors beyond her club and county level. She received the State 4-H Emerald Clover Award and the State 4-H LCP Award. Both awards are for her many hours of participation, community service, leadership, professionalism and project learning at the club, county, state, and national levels. She was also an Illinois Delegate to the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta Georgia in November 2016, where she was an Illinois State Flag Bearer for the General Assembly. Josephine has received perfect attendance the last nine of ten years and has held a position in her 4-H club every year and is also the 4-H Federation President.
Josephine mentions 4-H is special to her because it provides unique opportunities to meet other 4-Hers from all over Illinois, the nation, and even internationally!
Josephine attends Murray First Baptist Church in Murray Kentucky and is also a member of Cherry Street General Baptist Church in Carmi. She has been a member of the Carmi Swim Team for ten years. She has received six 3rd place and three 2nd place trophies, and one 1st place trophy during her swimming career, as well as have placed in the top six for her age division, allowing her an opportunity to swim at the state level. In the past, Josephine has completed numerous hours of missionary service with her family in Haiti. Her favorite works of service include teaching young girls and women how to knit and serving at medical mission clinics.
Then when she is not working on her 4-H projects, Josephine is a first year student at Murray State University with a junior level standing. This past May she was admitted into the Murray State University Nursing Program and was recognized at a White Coat Nursing Induction ceremony in September.
