At 2:39 am Wednesday, Carmi Police responded to a call from Huck’s about a man driving off without paying for $42.05 in fuel. Officers were given a complete description of the man and his truck and was told he was travelling east on Oak Street.
A short time later, officers stopped the truck in the parking lot of Ginny’s Place and placed 60 year old Gregg Duckworth of Springerton into custody. As Duckworth exited the vehicle, officers spotted a loaded .25 caliber handgun lying on the floorboard. A further search of the truck and Duckworth’s person turned up more than 30 grams of methamphetamine, over 10 grams of cannabis, a hypodermic syringe, ammunition, and just over $5000 in cash.
Duckworth has been charged with retail theft, controlled substances trafficking, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, unlawful use of weapons by a felon, unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of cannabis over 10 grams.
Duckworth is being held at the White County Jail without bond. The White County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the arrest.
