The Midwest Region of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) today endorsed JB Pritzker for Governor of Illinois.
At an event held at Laborers’ Local 362 in Bloomington, LIUNA Vice President and Midwest Regional Manager John Penn said it was Pritzker’s commitment to putting people back to work that won him the support of the 28 local unions and 18,000 members of LIUNA in downstate Illinois.
“JB Pritzker has a track record of creating jobs in the private sector,” Penn said, “and JB understands full well that putting thousands of construction workers to work rebuilding our state is not only good for them and their families, it’s crucial to the Illinois economy.”
Penn also cited the commitment of Pritzker and running mate Juliana Stratton to protecting the rights and paychecks of Illinois workers as key to the union’s support.
“Workers have learned over the last three, long years what Bruce Rauner’s agenda is,” said Penn, “The attacks on the rights and wages of Illinois workers will only end the day that Rauner leaves the governor’s office for good. And JB Pritzker and Juliana Stratton have the plan and vision to make that happen.”
“I am so proud and honored to have won the support of the hard-working members of the Laborers’ Union,” Pritzker said. “And I will work tirelessly every day as Illinois’ next governor to help not only them, but all workers in this state.”
After the Bloomington event, Pritzker traveled to Stanford, IL where he toured one of LIUNA’s four state-of-the-art training facilities.
