Norris City teen wins national archery tournament

Jalyn Sharp won the ASA (Archery Shooters Association) Classic held in Cullman, AL  August 3-6.  Jalyn shoots for NCOE S3DA.  Jalyn is the 15 year old daughter of Jim and Sherry Sharp of Norris City.  She has a younger sister, Jerzi.

ASA has hosted tens of thousands of amateur professional archers from across the United States in National Pro/Am and state level club competitions. Our state club organization is called the ASA Federation, and our national shoots are known as the McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour.  The ASA has Federation chapters in 37 states with over 9,000 members and 330 clubs.  The ASA Pro/Am Tour is a national series of Pro/Am tournaments, plus the Championship “Classic” which are recognized as the best run, highest paying and most exciting events in 3-D archery.  In addition to providing world class competition, each ASA Pro/Am provides the Host community and surrounding area with an economic impact of well over $1,000,000.00, as each event attracts thousands of archers, sponsors, family members and spectators.  The ASA Classic had over 1850 registered archers.
Jalyn has only been shooting a bow since March.  She shoots in the High School Female Open class.  Her dad has hauled her all over the State of Illinois to shoot.  Jalyn has been to Princeton, Ky to get instruction from Margie Carter, the Co-Owner of Threadz Bowstrings.  Margie shoots Womans Known 45.  Jalyn has also gotten advise from a longtime ASA shooter from Paris, TN, George Whiteman.
” I have truly enjoyed watching Jalyn this year.  She is very passionate about the sport of archery.  She is like a sponge.  She has been given a lot of advice about shooting and she can figure out what to listen to and what won’t work for her.  Jalyn has only been shooting a bow since March and is already a National Champion.  I can’t wait to see how far she goes in this sport.  She is already turning heads.”  Ricky Sauls Illinois S3DA State Coordinator.
