On Tuesday, the White County Sheriff’s Department received two separate reports of damage to both the old grade school and high school buildings in Crossville.
At 6:55 am, Bradley Cox, who owns the grade school building, reported that over the weekend, someone had entered the building and had damaged some items that were left there when the school vacated the building. No sign of forced entry was found, but three doors had been left open.
Just after noon, a representative of the Crossville Community Club, Jeff Spencer, reported considerable damage had been done to the old high school building. Deputies discovered that windows had been broken out, numerous fires had been attempted to be set, items had been strewn about, walls and fixtures had been spray painted, and liquids including soap and hand sanitizer had been poured on floors.
Following an investigation into the vandalism, the Sheriff’s Department identified four juveniles, two 10 year olds, an 11 year old, and a 12 year old as suspects. According to Sheriff Doug Maier, numerous interviews were conducted, and States Attorney Denton Aud has been briefed on the incidents, and completed reports will be forwarded to his office for prosecution.
