ICC Policy Session to Focus on Renewable Energy and Implementing The Future Energy Jobs Act

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) will hold a policy session called “Illinois’ Power Meter” Wednesday, July 12 to assess the present and future of renewable energy in Illinois in light of the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), which went into effect June 1.

Expert panelists will discuss renewable energy in Illinois, and the projected effects of FEJA on the development of additional solar and wind sources. Discussion will include how to realistically integrate renewables in Illinois, distribution and transmission, the development of technology to enhance those systems, and the relationship between environmental policy and economic theory in today’s evolving energy landscape.

“Through the enactment of The Future Energy Jobs Act, Governor Bruce Rauner and the Illinois General Assembly issued a comprehensive mandate for expanding affordable clean energy sources, reducing emissions, dramatically improving energy efficiency and creating tens of thousands of new energy jobs,” said Acting Commissioner Sadzi Oliva, who will host her first policy session. “Our goal as regulators is to closely monitor the anticipated effect with the actual effect this legislation has on Illinois’ transmission and distribution systems, as well as our ability to grow reliable, affordable clean energy sources.”

Panelists will include: Anthony Star, Director, Illinois Power Agency; MeLena Hessel, Policy Advocate, Environmental Law & Policy Center;Becky Stanfield, Senior Director, Western States, Vote Solar; Andrew Barbeau, President, The Accelerate Group;  Shay Bahramirad, Director, Distribution System Planning, Smart Grid and Innovation, ComEd; Amy Francetic, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs & New Ventures, Invenergy; Matthew R. Tomc, Director & Assistant General Counsel, Ameren; James P. Gignac, Environmental & Energy Counsel, Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

The policy session will be held from 11:00 AM TO 3:00 PM in the Main Hearing Room at the ICC’s Chicago Office, located at 160 North LaSalle Street, Suite C-800, Chicago Illinois 60601.
