Following his decision to support Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of SB 9 on Thursday, Rep. David Reis issued the following statement:“After receiving hundreds of calls, thousands of emails, and personally returning calls for feedback it was clear the vast majority of my constituents wanted me to stand firm and vote NO to override the Governors of SB 9.
As I mentioned in my response after my initial vote, this has been a very stressful time for me as a legislator to balance the wishes of the region as we try to break the budget impasse that has lasted over two years. “Demand reforms before asking us to pay more” was the voice I heard over and over.
