A traffic stop in Carmi Saturday night led to the arrest of a Crossville man on drug charges. 28 year old Joseph Jordan was pulled over at the intersection of Church and Robinson Streets by White County Sheriff’s deputies at 9:48 pm. Jordan was originally taken into custody for improper vehicle registration and not having valid insurance, but a search of his person turned up a grinder that tested positive for methamphetamine and three pipes used to smoke marijuana.
Jordan was charged additionally with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than ten grams of cannabis. He is being held at the White County Jail without bail pending a court hearing.
Just before 10 pm Saturday night, White County deputies received a report of an aggravated battery. The victim told deputies that she had observed 43 year old Jason Steed attempt to strike her adolescent son while he was walking on 2nd Street, and had intervened. She then stated that Steed had punched her in the chest and requested an ambulance. After the White County Ambulance Service arrived and performed a check of the victim, it was determined that no further medical attention was required.
Steed was found at his residence on Second Street, and appeared to be highly intoxicated according to the report. Steed admitted to drinking a large amount of peppermint schnapps, but denied taking part in the assault. Steed was taken to the White County Jail, where corrections officers discovered him to be in possession of methamphetamine. Steed was charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct, and possession of methamphetamine. He is being held without bail pending a court hearing.
