The White County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Crossville man for possession of stolen property after an item reported stolen on Tuesday was spotted for sale on EBay.
Tuesday morning, Tim Scates reported to the Sheriff’s Department that an irrigation hand sprayer had been stolen from the Susan Wenzel farm within the past two weeks. Scates also relayed that he believed the stolen sprayer had been listed on EBay for well below its value.
Contact was made with the seller through an unidentified individual’s EBay account, and the seller, using the account name of “Retail Blitz” agreed to meet the contact in the CVS parking lot. The Sheriff’s Department and Carmi Police began surveilling the lot at 4:45 pm Wednesday, observing the black F150 Ford pickup the seller said he would be driving. As the contact entered the parking lot, the suspect drove away, and was stopped by Carmi Police in the Huck’s parking lot. 
There, officers discovered the sprayer in the possession of 36 year old Curtis Staton of Crossville. Staton told Sheriff Maier that he had accuried the sprayer and other items from a man in Geff named Andy. Staton stated that his uncle and he had traded a four wheeler for a pickup that had the items, including the sprayer in the bed. After questioning, Staton’s uncle stated he had no knowledge of the statements Staton had made.
At Staton’s residence, the Sheriff’s Department seized other items Staton had posted for sale online. The sprayer in Staton’s possession serial number matched the one reported by Scates. Staton was charged with possession of stolen property and transported to the White County Jail. He is being held without bail pending a court hearing. Additional charges may be coming from States Attorney Denton Aud.
