Grayville City Council forced to raise trash pick up rates

The Grayville City Council met for their first meeting of April on Monday night.  Following approving the consent agenda and the treasurer’s report, the Council went into a fifteen minute executive session, and will advertise for a part time summer employee.

The Council approved a request from Jones Realty Corporation to go forward with a purchase of property in the I-64 Plaza approved by the Council last year.

The City will put up for sealed bid a 1989 Ford tractor with bushhog and a 1990 Kubota tractor with mower.  The Council approved the purchase of a new John Deere tractor with pallet forks, front end loader, box blade, and rotary cutter for $31,164. 75.

A bid by Wabash Valley of $8767.92 to cover the woodwork at the new shelter house was approved, and an adjustment of $50 for curb work was made to the 2017 Motor Fuel Tax program.

Due to an increase in the bid by Republic Services for trash pickup, the City will increase rates to $12.50 on May 1 for 2017.  In 2018, the cost will increase to $14.00 and $15.75 in 2019.

The Council took no action on the Rain for Rent lease last night, but will begin to discuss the renewal before the 90 day period is due.

Cheryl Hill addressed the Council about resolution of her water meter issues.  Hill stated that she had filed a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office Consumer Fraud Division.  Mayor Joe Bisch then stated that there would be no further discussion of the issue until after a ruling.

Mayor Bisch publicly thanked Mike Knight for his work with the City over the years in light of Knight announcing his retirement from the Community Service Program effective May 24th.   Bisch also announced that the City has moved from dry chemical to liquid chemical at the water plant, and that the City would be flushing fire hydrants April 17th through the 21st, although that may be altered as they will be totally cleaning the system of sediment.  Also, it is mowing season, and the Mayor reminded people that ground decorations need to be cleaned up at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The meeting adjourned at 7:38 pm and the Council will meet again on April 24th at 7 pm.
