IECC Board member resigns at Tuesday meeting

Trustee Michael Correll unexpectedly resigned from the Board of Trustees.  First elected in 2009 and reelected in 2013, Correll stated, “I have tried to represent the 110,000 people of the District in the best way I could.  I have attempted to stand for all the taxpayers by fighting to keep the tax burden low and ensure that money was wisely spent, while still delivering exceptional education and services to our communities.”  Trustee Correll cited personal reasons for leaving the Board.

“Because of the great Board members that will remain, and IECC’s outstanding administration, I am confident this District will continue providing great services to our communities and excellence in education”, Correll concluded.

In other business, the Board of Trustees of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges approved three policies affecting Dual Credit, Emergency Response Plans and Substance Abuse Testing for Athletes at the regular meeting Tuesday, March 21, at Olney Central College, Olney.

The trustees and administration gave special recognition to Gideon Raley, Student Trustee, and expressed appreciation for his service on the Board of Trustees during the past 12 months.  He is a student at Olney Central College and his term on the Board ended with the March meeting.  He was presented a plaque in recognition of his service to the Board of Trustees and the IECC district.  A new student trustee will be seated at the April Board meeting.

A revision to the fee structure for the concealed carry course will bring the total cost of the course down to $175.00.  The course has developed a strong reputation for being thorough and complete.

The trustees announced the intention to consider approval of contract extensions for the District’s CEO, the four college Presidents, and the Dean of Workforce Education.  The contracts will be considered at the April 18th Board of Trustees meeting.

The Board approved acceptance of a bid received for student activities covered by the TRIO Upward Bound Grant Program, from Gerber Tours, Inc.

An affiliation agreement between the District and Rural Health Innovation Collaborative, located in Terre Haute, Indiana, was approved for the Certified Medical Assistant Program at Lincoln Trail College.

Employment was approved for Bobbi Hart-Walka as Office Assistant, effective March 16 and for Ashley Bigard as Advisor, effective April 3, both at Olney Central College.  A change in status was approved for Dr. Jeffrey Cutchin from Dean of Instruction at Olney Central College to Chief Academic Officer, at the IECC District Office, effective May 8.

Next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Wabash Valley College, Mt. Carmel.
