NCOE Board holds March meeting Wednesday night

The NCOE Board of Education held their monthly meeting March 15th in the Superintendent’s office.  The minutes and the bills for the month were approved as presented.

Personnel issues highlighted the agenda for the meeting.  For several years the Board has voted to send Reduction in Force (RIF) letters to employees.  The Board voted to send RIF letters to 21 aides and 2 van drivers.  Mr. Vollman updated the board that the state continues to not pay funds due for transportation and special education and future payments are uncertain.  He did feel at this time there was no need to RIF any additional employees.

The Board voted to re-employ all certified staff and non-certified staff for the next year.  Both Ms. Carter and Mr. Haley were also retained as principals for the 2017-2018 school year.

The Board also voted to hire new employees for the 2017-2018 school year. They are Chad Garrett, Special Education Teacher; Ryan Trueblood, NCO Science Teacher; Caitlin Burklow, NCO Physical Education Teacher; Kelci Webb, Booth Elementary Education Teacher; and Donnie Starks, Custodian.

The Board, Mr. Vollman and Mr. Haley all gave praises on how well the basketball sectionals went.  They wanted to give a special thank you to all the employees, staff, students and also Mayor Kissel and law enforcement that participated to help make it a successful event.

High School Principal Mr. Haley reported that Clifford Kretzer and Mattie Colbert will both advance to state in the WYSE team competition.

Mr. Flechs announced that NCO would be having their PTO carnival on April 1st.  Also 8th grade graduation will be May 22nd at 6 and 7:30 pm.

Booth Principal Mrs. Carter shared with the Board that Pre-K and Kindergarten registration with be April 27th.  Also they will be having a spring dance on April 21st and admission is a canned food item that will be donated to the Enfield Food Pantry.

In other business the Board:

– Awarded the mowing bid of the NCOE high school to Brinkley & Sons.

– Awarded the mowing bid of the NCO grade school to Andy’s Lawn Service.

–  Approved the 2017-2018 school calendar.

– Renewed the membership with IHSA.
