Grayville City Council gives approval to new campground at Monday meeting

It was an exciting night at Grayville’s first City Council meeting in March.  Following approval of the consent agenda, treasurer’s report, and a purchase order for billing paper for the utility departments, the Council heard a presentation from Joe Hillenbrand about a new Wild West themed RV park and camp ground he and his family wish to bring to the I-64 plaza.

Called the “Rest Up Camping and RV Corral”, the future plans will include a 36 hole mini golf course, and old west themed town, electronic shooting gallery, and a full restaurant along with 200 plus RV sites, tent camping facilities, and cabin rentals for 2 to 6 guests.  There will also be space for rental for private parties and weddings.  The family focused campground hopes to have a partial opening by late summer this year, and be completed within 18-24 months.  Mayor Joe Bisch called the venture a great addition to Grayville.

The Council overwhelmingly supported the venture, and agreed to sell eleven lots in Phase II of the Plaza at $3500 an acre for a total of $189,910.  Work will begin as soon as the paperwork is completed.

In other action, the Council approved a minor language change in the City’s discipline policy, and tabled an update to the Motor Fuel Tax Program for 2017.  The Council approved the purchase of 60 tons of road salt to maintain state pricing, tabled the purchase of a new tractor until the Mayor and Council members could see the two vehicles in person.

The fiscal year 2017 budget was presented, and will be on display at City Hall for 30 days.  A public hearing on the budget will be held April 24th at 6:45 pm and the budget will be up for passage later at the meeting that night.

Tiffany Cowles was hired as the full time utilities clerk with unanimous approval.

In the February Police Report, Grayville officers answered 141 calls for service, opened 22 case files, made ten arrests, issued 21 citations and 39 warnings, filed five traffic crash reports, and towed six vehicles.

The meeting adjourned at 7:52 pm and the Council will meet again at 7 pm on March 27th.
