Children’s Health Fair returning to RLC campus in April

For the third year, local grade school children are invited to learn about their bodies and how to keep them healthy at Rend Lake College’s Children’s Health Fair. Kindergarten through sixth grade students will visit RLC’s James “Hummer” Waugh Gymnasium from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday, April 28.

Throughout the day, the students will interact with health and physical fitness activities encouraging them to be active, eat better, and much more. Back by popular demand will be the Healthy Body Walk wherein students travel through and learn about the different systems of the body. RLC students from a variety of health care programs will discuss the systems and the ways the children can take care of themselves.

In addition to the Healthy Body Walk, the grade school children will participate in nearly 20 different stations that focus on numerous topics. Some of these stations include internet safety with the Illinois State Police, Jiu Jitsu with iQ Athletics, Ag in the Classroom with the Franklin and Jefferson counties extension centers, visiting the emergency room with Litton Ambulance and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, safety in the woods with the Boy Scouts, physical workouts with the RLC Rec, fire safety with the Jefferson County Fire Department, and much more. Other activities will focus on heart health, cycling, interactive gaming, x-rays, water safety, yoga, and Zumba.
